ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you looking for a meaningful and rewarding opportunity to support students with diverse learning needs while experiencing life in the Middle East?

American Creativity Academy Bahrain (ACA-BH) is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our Green Unit — a specialized programme designed to support students with additional learning needs. The successful candidate will play a key role in creating an inclusive, structured, and nurturing learning environment that supports each student’s academic, social, and emotional development.

ACA-BH is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA), and is recognized as an IB World School delivering an American Core Standards Curriculum.

Accommodation


A monthly housing allowance of BHD 190 to BHD 310 is provided, based on family status.


Airfare


Initial round-trip flight to Bahrain booked by the school for first contract year. Yearly round-trip ticket allowance to home of record for teacher and eligible dependents (max. 2 children or 1 child and spouse) from year 2


International Medical Insurance


Provided for teacher and up to 2 dependents (spouse and/or children)


Settling-in Allowance


BD 250 — first contract year only


Excess Baggage


BD 130 — first contract year only


Visa Expenses


BD 125 reimbursed for staff landing in Bahrain with a completed Work Visa obtained overseas


Tuition Discount


50% tuition discount for up to 2 children of overseas teaching staff enrolled at ACA-BH


Bereavement Leave


Up to 3 calendar days for immediate family + airline ticket provided for overseas staff


Maternity Leave


60 calendar days paid from date of delivery


Personal Leave


2 days per contract year


End-of-Service Gratuity


Provided in accordance with Bahrain Laboure Law.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide individualized instruction and support tailored to students with special educational needs in the Green Unit
  • Develop, implement, and regularly review Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for each student
  • Adapt curriculum, resources, and teaching strategies to meet diverse and complex learning needs
  • Monitor and assess student progress against IEP goals and maintain accurate, up-to-date records
  • Create a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student independence
  • Work collaboratively with therapists, classroom assistants, support staff, and school leadership
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and families regarding student progress and wellbeing
  • Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioural development through targeted strategies and programmes
  • Implement evidence-based behaviour management strategies and individual intervention plans
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and professional development sessions
  • Supervise students during school activities, transitions, and breaks as required
  • Sponsor at least one school club or extracurricular activity per year (minimum 8 hours)
  • Promote inclusion, respect, and student wellbeing across the school community
  • Uphold ACA-BH values, policies, and professional standards at all times

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education, Education, Psychology, or a related field
  • Valid teaching license (Special Education specialization preferred)
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of IEP development, differentiated instruction, and inclusive practices
  • Ability to build positive, trust-based relationships with students and families
  • Patience, empathy, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Clear criminal record; ability to obtain a Bahrain work visa
