Casual, fun and great opportunity for learning.

Indeed Featured review

Wetherspoons is a great starting job for anyone looking into hospitality, great learning experience! Management can be a little gatekeeping-ish, in for their own benefit and will make you work a lot of late shifts.

Pros

Free food, discounts and great opportunities to learn as a starting job.

Cons

Unsociable hours, lots of free weekends were taken away due to working a late shift.

Seems nice...at first

Initially, I enjoyed the work due to other staff memeber and managers being so friendly but that's about it for positives (unless you count free food). Double standards for the favourites who can stand around for a whole day chatting. Abuse of company's rules - you will work a 12h shift at some point, managers will change your shift or give you an extra a day or two before (your rota should be posted 3 weeks in advance), if you struggle mentally there will be no support for you from the management, managers will give you shifts on the days you specifically requested to have off (if you're a student it's a huge issue). I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone with current management.

Pros

Free food Friendly coworkers

Cons

Management

Good place to work but management lacking

Overall okay, free food which is good but often expect too much of you for the pay you get. Long hours which are often unsociable but understanding when you need time off

Cons

Stressful

Was an okay place to work at in the beginning but as time went on that changed quickly. Head office has no idea what they are doing and change things every week. The managers were rude and often in their own bubble. The area manager up to the suits that would visit the pub often made you feel like you were beneath them and mostly would never acknowledge your presence, at least, until they needed to.

Rate your recent company

Share your experience to help others

Runs on favouritism, and if you're not one of the favourites then I promise you won't be getting any rewards for your hard work.

I don't recommend due to favouritism, double standards and a lack of equal opportunities. You will get frustrated during the day, if you're hard working, as some lazy co workers will leave you do pick up their slack. The General Manager is about as useful as a chocolate tea pot. Stressful GM who runs the pub on favouritism, and if you're not one of the favourites then I promise you won't be getting any rewards, such as: more hours, promotions etc, for your hard work.

Pros

Most of your co workers, hourly rate is higher than say retail and free meal on breaks.

Cons

Manager and favouritism.

Fun place to work for short amount of time

Worked there for a couple of months. Really good to save money but for the long run it can be tiring and its hard work. Like any bar job there is long hours and you're working un-social hours but great for the experience of bar work.

Pros

Free food and drink on break, discounted drinks and food in other chains

Cons

Long hours but that's expected

Good Company to Work for!

Good rates of pay with good benefits. If you have a good manager a work life balance can be achieved. Hard work but rewarding with great banter with both the team and some customers. Some customers can be challenging

Pros

Free food on shift, discount, free shares

Cons

Unsociable hours, stressful, some nasty customers

Started okay, team all seem great but when facing some difficulties in personal life there is no support. Ultimately let go

No support from management, unless you're part of the clique then done expect your voice to be heard on anything. Pay is just above minimum wage, however work can be hard especially when expected to work every weekend.

Good place to get experience but pub management is often bad

Best part of the job is the team you'll work with, met some great people there who are still my friends. Pub management could be better simply by actually caring and being kind but oh well. Don't expect to learn any actual cooking skills or knife skills. This is just a speed test.

Pros

free food

Cons

Management

Stress isn’t worth it

The company have no loyalty to its management or staff. Just a number attitude. There are far more welcoming/nicer environments to work in out there.

Pros

The staff and the team

Cons

Expected to work every weekend. A lot of late nights. Huge demands from management above.

Horrible place to work

Most managers are bullies and incredibly rude towards staff, They give you minimal support and training and then criticise and undermine you when you fail to complete a task, they bring morale down and make you feel small and stupid all the time even when you try your hardest, they also go behind your back and fabricate lies to undermine your performance and will not give you the support, constructive criticism or training you need but instead make you feel low as they disrespect most of the staff.

Pros

Very fun job, good money

Cons

Managers, rude customers

Not worth it

The company cares about making money and that’s it. Doesn’t care about there staff and awful work environment. Like your pouring a pint and running a pub, makes it seem like it’s life or death.

Pros

Free food and bonus scheme

Cons

Long hours Worked like a dog, Management has no clue what’s going on, Staff turnover is terrible, Money isn’t worth the stress

Favouritism

Fake people they make it seem it’ll be chill but it’s not Two-faced managers or awful colleagues they don’t give you any reason to work there and it’s not worth it

Pros

Free food after 4 and a Half hours after work 50% off drinks while on shift pay is alright I guess

Cons

Awful colleagues no recognition for anything you do No reason to go the extra mile

Unprofessional management

The management is poor and there’s always one rule for one and one for another. Bad pay and there is ALOT of online learning to do before you can even start.

Pros

Free coffee

Cons

The coffee is bad
